Hayao Miyazaki et le Héron est un documentaire de deux heures qui retrace le tournage du Garçon et le héron, filmé avec un accès exclusif au Studio Ghibli sur une période étonnante de sept ans. C’est aussi un témoignage de la collaboration entre le cinéaste Hayao Miyazaki et le producteur Toshio Suzuki, qui se livrent à une danse complexe de tromperie et d’amitié, à l’image de Mahito et le Héron, tandis que Suzuki pousse Miyazaki à aller toujours plus loin dans sa créativité, pour finalement accoucher d’un chef-d’œuvre sans précédent.
