Denny Colt, un ancien flic, revient mystérieusement d'entre les morts. Il est désormais le Spirit, combattant du crime dans les rues obscures de Central City. Son ennemi juré, Octopus, a un but bien différent : dans sa folle quête d'immortalité, il s'apprête à détruire la ville. Aux quatre coins de la cité, le Spirit traque le tueur. Sur son chemin, le héros masqué croise des femmes, toutes sublimes, qui cherchent à le séduire, l'aimer ou le tuer... Seul son amour de toujours ne le trahira pas : Central City, la ville qui l'a vu naître... deux fois.
